Beta Thalassemia, like other Mediterranean countries, is one of the mostly seen blood diseases in Turkey. Although the frequency of carrying the disease increases to 10% for some lands, It has normally 2%-3% of  the risk. Because of the increasing number (21%) of marriage between relatives in Turkey, many effected pregnancy is seen and these pregnancies are ended.

The mostly seen mutation in Turkey, according to some surveys, is mutation IVS-I 110. Other mutations are IVS-I 1, IVS-I 6, Cod- 39, FSC-8, -30, IVS-II 1, IVS-II 745.
